About the Author
Joy Namdarian is a British born Australian Malaysian, who calls Australia home.
Joy was editor of a trade magazine, wrote copy for advertising agencies and a software company, and managed multi-million dollar bid/tender proposals on super tight deadlines.
She lives with her husband and three young children: Evelyn, Vivian and David. Vivian has a rare genetic mutation called Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC).
Since quitting the bright lights of corporate life, Joy went from one venture to the next, only to find herself returning to the one thing she truly loves. Storytelling.
A Cure for Vivian is her first children’s book. It was written because in the first years of Vivian’s life, Joy found it incredibly difficult to read bedtime books to her then-toddler, Evelyn. Vivian had not met her milestones, she was having seizures constantly, and the doctors said that she would never be able to have a normal life.
“The children’s books I read to Evelyn were about children learning, developing, and doing; they all had happy endings. I would choke on the words every time I had to read a story to her. I learned from other families in a similar situation that they also struggled to read typical children’s books to their kids. So I decided to write a children’s book that parents could read to their children, that would provide them with a feeling of comfort instead of heartbreak.”
